This is a handmade wooden cup ("kuksa" in Finnish) from Kuksa Parooni in Enontekiö, who has been making handicrafts from wood for over 40 years.The cup has been made from the burl of a birch tree, which has grown in the Enontekiö region. A truly local item.The cup has a diameter of ca. 8.5cm. The handle has a leather strap attached and is decorated with a piece of reindeer antler. Hidden under the handle is the artist's signature.
Kuksa Parooni
Kuksa parooni is the pseudonym of Eerikki Laakso. He is the brother of puukko parooni and they share the same work space. Eerikki is making handicrafts from wood since over 40 years, and he is most famous for his excellence in creating "kuksa," a traditional wooden cup made from birch burrs. However, he also makes other handicrafts from wood, such as knives with wooden handles.
